Coach K Visits the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali

Coach K stopped by the Sacred Monkey Forest of Padangtegal to see the long-tailed macaques monkeys. The monkey's were terrified of his bobble head!
The Coach gave the monkey's permission to come close and give his head a bobble. Oh Coach, you are brave! That monkey could have grabbed your head and headed for the jungle!
Watch out Coach! The monkeys are getting braver and they have you surrounded!
The Coach soothed the wild monkeys by launching into an inspirational dialog. I am pleased to report that all of the monkeys in Ubud are Blue Devil fans now!
Coach K was the star of the the Sacred Monkey Forest. Of course!

Coach K Arrives in Bali

Coach K arrived in Bali to discover a towel cobra on his bed. He laughed so much that his head bobbled off his body, again! Welcome to Bali Coach!
It's always a beautiful morning in Bali. The Coach decided to swing from the balcony to gather young coconuts for breakfast. Folks, the Coach has gone native.
The Coach heads into Ubud like every other tourist- on the back of a motor scooter without a helmet.
The shopping was terrific along the Monkey Forest Road in Ubud, Bali. However, the Coach decided to stay clear of Komodo dragons. Wise decision Coach. You are known for wise decisions.
Was the Coach getting into the Hindu culture of Bali, or was he just avoiding the rat below? Come on Ganesha, do something about those rats other than offering them flowers and rice!

Coach K and Barack Obama Day

June 5th was Barack Obama Day for Coach K. He returned to Jakarta and drove directly to the central part of town to visit the school that Barack attended when living in Indonesia as a child.
After photos ops at Barack's school, the Coach wanted to drop by the American Embassy for more photographs. The embassy guards were the first unaccommodating people in Indonesia- pleasant? Yes. Laughing at us? Yes, but no photos for the famous coach at his own embassy. The Coach said he would drop by again when we return from Bali and Central Java. Why did the guards ask if we had been drinking? I told them I had only had one diet coke! Whatever could they have meant? I think the Coach and I are on their embassy list now!

Coach K went to dinner and stuffed himself on Barck Obama's favorite meal. The Coach sampled goat Satay.
Then he gobbled up Nasi Goreng.
The Coach ended his meal with Bakso and a drink made from young coconut. Happy Barack Obama Day! What is the next stop for Coach K? Bali!

Coach K Loses His Head!

While putting on his gear this morning, Coach K lost his head! Coach, I thought you were cooler than that! Everyone was horrified, and there was no medic on board our boat, nor any Elmer's Glue. However, that didn't stop our intrepid Coach. He completed three more dives, played with large brown and yellow seahorses, posed with a ghost pipe fish, and jumped out of my pocket to see a tiny baby octopus. I will post the Coach's last dive photos when we arrive in Jakarta tomorrow. We will spend the day searching for Barack Obama. We will visit Barack's school, see his statue in Jakarta, and eat Barack's favorite meal for dinner. Stay tuned. On Monday, the Coach flies to Bali for a well deserved massage, Indonesian style!

Coach K 's First Three Dives in Indonesia

Coach K loved the cabbage coral. This is why he traveled so far. There is no diving quite like underwater parks in Indonesia! He did not want to leave. I had to pry him off the coral.
Be careful Coach! There might be fire coral nearby and you are wearing a suit- and I don't mean a wet suit!
Coach K is thinking of recruiting turtles for the team. Big boys like this could dominate a court! Right now, they are both sizing each other up!
The Coach told me that he had never seen colors this beautiful. I talked him out of changing the team colors to those of the Bunaken Coral Reefs, and just stick with the Duke blue and white. It works.
Coach K enjoys a well deserved Pina Colada after his first three dives. Not too much Coach! You will be diving again in the morning!

Coach K's First Dive!

Despite his broken leg, the Coach was ready to dive the Bunaken Marine Park northwest of Sulawesi, Indonesia. He was not about to miss scuba diving in one of the most beautiful spots in the world.
Dive buddy, Tula, suits up to take Coach K under. The Coach was the only one in the group diving in a suit and tie, without the aid of regulator, fins, or a mask. Coach, you are a fashion stud!

After checking Tula's gear, the Coach signaled that he was ready to submerge by crossing his arms in a commanding manner.

The Coach's first dive was to a World War II sunken cargo ship. When he reached the bow, he jumped off for a photo op. Coach...you aren't supposed to touch the coral!

Coach K should be certified after this dive. He stood at the front of the wreck, 75 feet under without air, and he looked as comfortable as any dive master. I guess that's what it takes to be a great Coach! Well done K! You are a natural!

Coach K 's Evening in Central Jakarta

Coach K insisted on shopping at the Plaza of Indonesia in Jakarta. He attempted negotiating the price of a dive watch, but 2K was too expensive for for Coach K. Come on Coach! After handling all those refs, is this the best you could do?
Coach K toyed with me in Cartier. I thought after traveling to Indonesia together, after all of our exciting adventures in Jakarta, and after a lifetime of loyalty to Duke basketball, the Coach was about to purchase me a ring! Oh Coach, what a bobbling minx you are!
The Coach settled into the Grand Hyatt in central Jakarta for high tea. After a busy day of touring, he needed some pamapering. I heard him whisper, "Bring it on!"
This was Lina's first high tea, and the the Coach's first high tea with me. The three of us dove into the pastries with abandon.Lina decided to shower Coach K with Indonesian hospitality by serving him custard. The Coach will have sweet dreams tonight!
